Dr. Marc Zaré
Dr. Marc Zaré is a San Francisco Bay Area board-certified surgeon, specializing in minimally invasive surgery. He is one of the foremost experts and a leader in his field in Northern California. Minimally invasive or laparoscopic surgery is a modern area of surgery where the emphasis lies on minimizing traumatic impact of surgery and facilitating speedy recovery.
Dr. Zaré obtained his general surgery training at Georgetown University, Washington DC – an institution with a rich tradition of surgical innovation. During his training, he collaborated with pioneers of minimally invasive surgery and was enthralled with the ability to perform complex surgical procedures on the gastrointestinal system with minimal post-operative pain.
During his residency, he was awarded the best resident in laparoscopic surgery. He pursued additional fellowship training in Bariatric and Advanced Gastrointestinal Surgery at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Throughout his training, Dr. Zaré was involved in surgical research, presenting his work at scientific meetings and helping advance the general understanding of the specialty.
Following completion of training, he served for four years as Assistant Professor of Surgery at Boston University, and Director of Minimally Invasive Surgery & Surgical Simulation at Boston VA Healthcare System.
Due to his deep commitment to clinical practice, in 2008 Dr. Zaré established his current practice in Northern California, offering laparoscopic and robotic surgery of the gastrointestinal system, including bariatric surgery.
Dr. Zaré has performed thousands of advanced laparoscopic procedures, including some of the earliest robotic general surgery procedures in the San Jose, Los Gatos area. He has authored several peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, and has been an invited speaker at over 50 national and regional surgical meetings.
Dr. Zaré has served as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Department of Surgery at Good Samaritan Hospital, San Jose, CA. Over the years, various major healthcare organizations have recognized and awarded Dr. Zaré’s clinical practice for high-quality patient care and clinical outcomes.
